20-year-old son kills father for refusing to sell parcel of land to fund his traveling overseas

Tragedy has struck the family of Umuonovo in Uwenu Ukaka village in Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State after a 20-year-old son, Chidiebere, allegedly killed his father.

Chidiebere was said to have killed his father one Mr. Christopher Onoh over his refusal to sell a parcel of land and give him the money to travel overseas.

The police in Enugu State have confirmed the incident.

A family source told The Punch that Chidiebere was a member of the Aye cult group popularly called ‘Egede boys in Ngwo’.

The source said the incident happened on March 20, 2019, when late Christopher had prepared one of his sons for school and went for a burial ceremony of a relation at Egotism village Ngwo leaving only Chidiebere at home.

“After few hours, Chidiebere called his father on the phone that he had a guest at home. By then he had arranged with one of his fellow cultist known as Sir King from Etiti Amamkwo Ngwo, who arrived shortly after Onoh left the house.

“Before late Onoh returned, they had taken Indian hemp. When he returned he asked his son where guest looking for him was and he told him the visitor was inside. Immediately he entered the house Chidiebere allegedly rushed him and hit him with a stick, and he fell down. He then tied a chain to his neck and two of them strangled his father to death,” the source said.

It was further gathered that after killing the man, Chidiebere and his friend Sir King carried the lifeless body of his father to his bedroom and laid him on his bed. They immediately relocated to Hiltop Enugu Ngwo where his friend Sir King was living.

A family relation who gave his name as Okoye said,

“When late Christopher’s last son Miracle returned from school, he went to check for his lunch where his father usually keep food for him even if he is not around, but couldn’t find food. He went to the living room and saw everywhere scattered.

“After seeing the scattered living room, he moved to his father’s bedroom where he saw his lifeless body lying on the bed. He called daddy! Daddy!! But he could not respond. He looked at the neck of his father and saw blood gushing out.”

Miracle said to be about 10 years old, ran to the house of his father’s younger brother to report what he found in the house to him. When he did not meet his uncle in the house, he explained to tenants in his house who were said to have ignored him.

Okoye added that when the boy couldn’t find help from the tenants, he ran to Uwenu Ukaka village square where he met one Mr. Felix Nnadi who followed him to the house and saw Christopher’s lifeless body.

Nnadi called the attention of the community including the Chief and President General of the village, who summoned the youths and instructed them to fish out Mr. Onoh’s killers.

“Immediately the youth swung into action by asking the little boy what happened and he narrated how he came back to collect his assignment from school and met his brother Chidiebere and his friend Sir King. He said on returning home from school, he saw lifeless body of his father lying on the bed.”

Miracle told the youths that he heard their mother telling his brother Chidiebere to torture his father small for not accepting to sell one of their lands at Ugwuejo Ukaka.

The youths and vigilante were said to have gone after Chidiebere and apprehended him, he has also confessed that he killed his father because he refused to sell the land to finance his traveling overseas.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu confirmed the incident, describing the incident as unfortunate.

He said that the Chidiebere and his partner in crime have been arrested and would be charged to court soon.
