A 20-year-old woman named Shannon from Welland, Ontario, Canada has a dangerous addiction of drinking petrol.
Despite knowing the risks, Shannon developed a habit of consuming petrol daily.
Shannon started drinking petrol to cope with feelings of depression. “I know this is not safe, I know it’s going to kill me and I still can’t stop,” she admitted. She described the taste as “sweet and sour, like a tangy sauce” and said, “I can’t go a day without it.”
Every day, Shannon drinks up to 16 teaspoons of petrol. A shocking video shows her going into her bathroom first thing in the morning, grabbing a red petrol canister from under the sink, and pouring the contents into her mouth.
Consuming petrol can cause severe health issues, including nausea, vomiting, intense stomach pain, and damage to the digestive tract, heart, and lungs. Shannon has experienced dizziness and sharp chest pains but continues with her addiction.
Shannon revealed that she sometimes puts petrol in a small water bottle to take with her when she goes out. She also smears fuel on her hands at petrol stations and keeps a glass of petrol by her bedside.
Shannon’s family is deeply concerned. Her sister Jacqueline said, “My biggest fear is that she could die. I couldn’t imagine life without her.” Her mother, Connie, added, “I’m at my wits’ end. I will do anything she needs to stop her drinking gasoline.”
Shannon’s story was featured on TLC’s “My Strange Addiction” in 2012. Since then, many have wondered about her fate. On Reddit, a user asked, “Is she still alive?” Some commenters claimed she is still living in her hometown.
Experts warn that drinking petrol can lead to severe health problems, including damage to the digestive tract, heart, and lungs, and even death. The UK Health Security Agency advises seeking immediate medical help if petrol is ingested and not to induce vomiting.
