18-year-old wife arrested for allegedly killing husband in Kano

Kano State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old woman, Saudat Jibril, for allegedly stabbing her husband, Salisu Idris, to death.

The tragic incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Farawa Quarters in Kano. According to police, the victim was attacked with a sharp knife and suffered deep injuries to his throat.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday afternoon. He said the victim, 30-year-old Salisu Idris, was taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital but was confirmed dead by doctors.

“Upon receiving the report around 12:35 a.m., the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, sent a team of detectives to the scene,” Kiyawa said. “The suspect has been arrested and is being held at the Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section.”

Kiyawa also said investigations are ongoing and that Saudat Jibril will be charged to court after police finish their inquiries.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the killing and promised that the case will be treated seriously.

“The Command will not tolerate any form of violence or criminal behaviour in Kano State,” CP Bakori said. “We are committed to ensuring justice is done. We ask the public to remain calm and support the investigation.”

People living in Farawa Quarters said the news shocked the entire neighbourhood. One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said, “We never noticed anything wrong between them. It’s very sad and unexpected.”

The reason behind the killing is still not known as police continue their investigation.
