In South Africa’s northeastern Limpopo province, a tragic incident unfolded on Friday as police engaged in a deadly shootout with suspects allegedly planning to rob a cash truck. The confrontation resulted in the loss of eighteen lives.

The South African Police Service provided details of the encounter, stating, “As soon as police approached the address, the group of suspects began shooting, police retaliated. Sixteen males and two females were declared dead at the scene.”

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe did not disclose further information at the time. However, local media outlets reported that the individuals killed were part of a suspected gang involved in robbing armored vans transporting cash for banks. Such heists are sadly common in South Africa and often lead to violent confrontations.
