No fewer than 18 people have died on Thursday night after being involved in a ghastly road accident along the Potiskum Dogon-Kuka highway in Fune Local Government of Yobe State.
A spokesman for the state’s Federal Road Safety Commission, Hussaini Haruna, confirmed the incident on Friday.
The spokesman revealed that three people were injured during the crash that involved a Golf wagon car with registration number BKD74SB had a head-on collision with a commuter bus with registration KHE454.
“A total of 18 people died in the accident which was caused by speeding and violations of traffic rules,” Haruna told AFP.
Daily Trust reported that the three injured victims were taken to the Damagum General Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, records from the FRSC revealed that a total of 5,101 people died while 30,690 others were injured in 10,637 road accidents in 2021.
