Yemen’s internationally recognized government forces say they have carried out 1,122 military operations against Houthi positions across several fronts, claiming that the campaign has resulted in the “neutralization” of 1,747 Houthi fighters.

Yemeni military spokesman Majed Abdullah al-Nuzaili announced the figures on Monday in a statement posted on X, saying the operations focused on Houthi military infrastructure and battlefield positions.

According to al-Nuzaili, the targets included artillery and rocket-launcher sites, defensive positions, routes used for troop movements, supply networks, reinforcements and military concentrations, as well as command and control facilities.

The reported strikes were conducted across the provinces of Saada, Al-Jawf and Taiz and along Yemen’s western coastal front. The military said it used a combination of fighter aircraft, drones, artillery, missiles, rocket launchers and sniper units during the operations.

Al-Nuzaili also said 364 military vehicles, pieces of equipment and transport and supply assets were destroyed or put out of service. The figures are claims from the Yemeni armed forces and could not be independently verified.

The announcement comes as Yemen’s government steps up its campaign to regain territory controlled by the Houthis. Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi announced on Sunday that comprehensive military operations had begun, directing government forces and other security and military formations to move toward restoring state control over Houthi-held areas.

The latest escalation follows major Houthi advances along Yemen’s western coast in September, including the capture of the strategic port city of Mocha and Mayyun Island near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The developments have heightened concerns over the security of one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes.

Yemen’s conflict dates back to 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and expanded their control over large parts of the country. A Saudi-led coalition intervened the following year in support of the internationally recognized government.

After years of intermittent fighting and a 2022 truce that reduced hostilities, violence has intensified again in recent months. The renewed battles have included fighting around Taiz and other strategic areas, while the Houthis have also launched attacks beyond Yemen’s borders.

Al-Nuzaili said government forces would continue their campaign to recover state territory and institutions and restore national sovereignty.
