17-year-old Nigerian emerges 2018 WAEC best candidate out of 1, 976, 537 students
A 17-year-old Nigerian pupil has emerged the overall best candidate in the 2018 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Peter Arotiba, formerly of Nigerian Airforce Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos, scored eight A1s to emerge first from 1, 976, 537 candidates who sat for 2018 WASSCE in The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
The teenager scored all As in the following subjects: Economics, Civic Education, Tourism, English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The second and third positions went to two Ghanaian pupils, Wilhermina Opoku and Brago Afrifa.
Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar, on Wednesday received Arotiba at his office in Abuja.
The air chief had on Monday presented an award of excellence to Arotiba during the NAF 55th anniversary dinner/gala night in Abuja.
Abubakar noted that the NAF, on its part, would continue to support him in his future endeavours.
Arotiba is a native of Mopa-Moro local government area of Kogi State.
He is currently studying medicine and surgery at the University of Ibadan.
Arotiba, who was born on Nov. 5, 2001, to Mr and Mrs Olu Arotiba, hails from Mopa-Moro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
He has won many laurels and awards, which include the first position in the 2017 Naija English Championship, organised by Dragnet Solutions Limited; First Position in the 2018 Naija Mathematics Championship and Overall best result in 2017 Joint Promotion Examination of NAF Secondary Schools.
Arotiba was also part of the AFSS Team that came second in the second edition of the CAS Inter-NAF Secondary Schools’ Quiz Competition.
His Team also came first in the 2017 Young Engineering Project Quiz Competition.
