The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been awarded a Doctorate degree after successfully defending his thesis in a remote Viva Voce, despite facing a legal battle at home over the Kano Emirship throne.

Viva Voce, commonly referred to as an oral examination or thesis defence, is a vital part of the PhD process in many universities. It involves a formal assessment where the candidate presents and defends their research in front of a panel of experts.

The news of Sanusi II’s academic achievement was shared by Ms. Kadaria Ahmed, the founder and CEO of RadioNow 95.3FM Lagos, in a post on her Facebook page on Wednesday.

She revealed that the examiners approved Sanusi II’s PhD thesis without requiring any amendments or corrections.

Ms. Ahmed wrote, “Happy to report, our Khalifa, our King, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, is now also a Doctor having successfully done his Viva Voce. His PhD was approved as submitted without any amendments or corrections. The examiners said congratulations Dr Sanusi!”

Expressing her joy, she added, “I am delighted to be able to join the examiners in congratulating Mai Martaba. Alhamdullilah.”
