At least 15 people have been rescued after a two-storey building collapsed at 54 Cole Street, Cemetery Bus Stop, Oyingbo, Lagos, in the early hours of Monday.

The incident, which happened around 12:20 a.m., left several others feared trapped under the debris. Emergency workers are still at the site carrying out search and rescue operations.

Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, and other responders were seen working together to reach those still trapped.

According to reports, the building had earlier been marked as distressed, and residents had been warned to leave before it finally gave way.

The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the development in a statement.

“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which had reportedly been marked as distressed before collapsing on the occupants. So far, 15 people—seven adult males, four adult females, and four children—have been rescued with varying degrees of injuries,” she said.

Adeseye added that the injured victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, and the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, for treatment.

As of 6 a.m. on Monday, no deaths had been recorded, but rescue teams continued working through the rubble in search of more survivors.
