The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 15 individuals in connection with violent disturbances in the Kandahar area of Bauchi, which included arson attacks on public facilities.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a press release on Sunday.

According to Wakil, the suspects allegedly attacked innocent residents, targeted the Civilian Joint Task Force office near Kandahar Primary School, and set parts of the school ablaze.

The unrest began on December 18, 2024, when members of the Civilian JTF reportedly clashed with a group of youths in the Kandahar area.

The following day, the youths regrouped and launched an attack on the Civilian JTF office, setting it and portions of the primary school on fire.

“During the attack, members of the Civilian JTF confronted the assailants, resulting in one of the attackers, identified as Saidu Musa, 22, sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest from a locally made firearm,” Wakil revealed.

Police operatives were dispatched to the scene, where they de-escalated the conflict and evacuated the injured individual to the Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

Following the unrest, the Bauchi State Police swiftly apprehended 15 suspects linked to the incident. Wakil confirmed that preliminary investigations had begun, with further details expected once the State Criminal Investigation Department concludes its inquiries.

The Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, condemned the violence and the targeting of public facilities. He described the acts as unwarranted and vowed that those responsible would face the full weight of the law.

“We urge all residents of Bauchi State to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead report grievances to appropriate authorities,” Mohammed stated.

He also directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
