The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Ebonyi State has seized 115.226 kilograms of various illicit substances and arrested 149 suspects in the third quarter of 2024.

This was confirmed by the State Commander, Mr. Peter Ogar, in a statement made on Wednesday in Abakaliki.

Ogar explained that the arrests and drug seizures took place across different locations in the state between July and September 2024.

He stated, “In total, we arrested 149 suspects, comprising 112 males and 37 females, between the age brackets of 26 and 72 years. The figure represents both drug dealers, drug users, and traffickers.”

The seized substances included crack cocaine, cannabis sativa, codeine syrup, tramadol tablets, diazepam, methamphetamine, and other psychotropic drugs. The total weight of the drugs seized was 115.226 kilograms.

He also shared details on the NDLEA’s efforts in educating the public about the dangers of drug abuse. “We carried out a series of sensitisation campaigns among youth groups and community leaders, encouraging them to end drug abuse and trafficking,” Ogar said.

The NDLEA also organized awareness programs in primary and secondary schools across local government areas in the state.

During the period, the agency counseled 82 suspects, including 64 males and 18 females, and secured the conviction of one person.

Ogar assured the public that the agency remains committed to fighting drug trafficking, not just in Ebonyi but across Nigeria.

He praised the strong relationship between the NDLEA and other security agencies, which has helped the Command in its operations.
