13 things you probably don’t know about ‘Mama Taraba‘

When the death of former Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Jummai Al-Hassan aka Mama Taraba, was reported, many Nigerians were taken aback.

Her demise was coming a day after the death of Pastor Dare Adeboye, the third son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

As reactions and condolences are beginning to pour in over the loss of Mama Taraba, WuzupNigeria has highlighted seven things you probably don’t know about her.

1. Mama Taraba was born on September 16, 1959, in Jalingo, Taraba State.

2. The late politician was a lawyer by profession.

3. She emerged the first female to be appointed Taraba Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice.

4. The former minister was also the first woman to be appointed as Secretary FCT judicial council on 17 December 2003.

5. Al-Hassan became the Chief Registrar of the FCT High Court on 17 December 2003.

6. She went into full time business and politics after her retirement from the FCT judiciary.

7. The former minister was a member of the 7th Senate between 2011 and 2015 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

8. Al-Hassan was appointed in 2015 into the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari after his election.

9. On July 27, 2018, she resigned as the Minister after the ruling APC screening committee disqualified her from the 2019 governorship primaries.

10. She was unanimously declared as the candidate for March 2019 Taraba State gubernatorial election under UDP after the other candidate stepped down in her bid.

11. Al-Hassan was widely known as “Mama Taraba”, because of her increased influence in the politics of her state.

12. She actively supported the Taraba State Football Association.

13. The former Minister of Women Affairs died aged 61.
