At least 13 people lost their lives and more than 20 were injured early Thursday when a bus crashed into a truck and caught fire in Andhra Pradesh, South India, officials reported.
The accident occurred around 6 a.m. (0030 GMT) in Markapuram district. After the collision, the bus ignited, trapping passengers inside and leading to fatalities, authorities said.
“So far we have reports of 13 deaths and more than 20 injured,” a police official in Markapuram district told Anadolu.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu instructed authorities to carry out a “comprehensive investigation” into the accident, according to a statement posted on US social media platform X by his office.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as “tragic” and announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured.
