A devastating fire erupted in a school dormitory in Yanshanpu village, Henan province, central China, resulting in the tragic death of thirteen people, as reported by the Xinhua state news agency.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday night at a privately run school that caters to nursery and primary-age pupils.

The school is situated near Nanyang City, and the deadly blaze has raised concerns and prompted investigations into its cause.

The manager of the school has been detained as part of ongoing investigations. Authorities have not released further details regarding the identities of the victims or the specific circumstances leading to the fire.

Firefighters responded promptly to the emergency, extinguishing the flames within an hour after receiving the alert.

One additional person is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, with reports indicating a stable condition.

Tragically, fatal fires are not uncommon in China, often attributed to lax enforcement of building and safety standards. In November, 26 lives were lost in a large fire that engulfed an office building in Luliang City, Shanxi province.

Another devastating incident occurred in April, where a hospital fire in Beijing claimed the lives of at least 29 people, primarily patients.
