11 killed, 100 injured as Russia strikes Ukraine Overnight

At least 11 people were killed and more than 100 others injured after Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on several parts of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials.

The dead included four people in the capital, Kyiv, and six residents in the central city of Dnipro.

Authorities said an additional victim, a rescue worker responding to the aftermath of the Dnipro strike, was killed in a subsequent attack.

Officials reported that children were among the more than 100 people wounded in the assault.

The combined missile and drone barrage struck residential and commercial areas, causing extensive damage, igniting fires and destroying vehicles in multiple locations.

Kyiv Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, described the overnight assault as a “massive enemy attack”.

According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, preliminary information suggested that several people may have been trapped beneath collapsed structures.

He shared the update on Telegram as emergency crews continued search and rescue efforts.

In Dnipro, the strikes damaged a two-storey residential house and partially destroyed a four-storey apartment building. Authorities said people remained trapped under the debris of the larger structure. In Kyiv’s Podilskyi district, rescue teams were also working to reach individuals believed to be buried under rubble after a nine-storey residential building sustained significant damage.

Explosions were heard across much of the night and continued into the early hours of Tuesday. Recovery and rescue operations were still ongoing later in the morning as emergency workers searched damaged sites.

The latest attack came after several days of warnings from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who said Russia was preparing a renewed wave of strikes. He had urged citizens to remain vigilant and seek shelter whenever air raid sirens were activated.

Ukrainian authorities have continued to appeal to international partners for additional air defence systems and missile interceptors to strengthen protection against Russian ballistic missile attacks. While the country’s defence forces have maintained a high interception rate against drones, officials say ballistic missiles remain one of the most difficult threats to counter.
