A total of 104 Nigerians stranded in Algeria have been brought back home under the Assisted Voluntary Return programme supported by the International Organisation for Migration in partnership with the Federal Government.

The returnees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Monday, June 30, around 1:50pm. They arrived onboard an Air Algerie flight with number 70-BKT, according to the National Emergency Management Agency.

NEMA said in a statement on Tuesday that the group consisted of 80 adult men, 14 adult women, two male children, five female children and three infants.

“Upon arrival, the returnees underwent biometric registration and documentation by the Nigerian Immigration Service and were provided with essential support, including food and water, medical assistance, ambulance services, luggage handling, and logistics support,” the agency stated.

NEMA said these measures were put in place to make sure the returnees had a safe and dignified return back to the country.

Just two weeks earlier, on June 18, NEMA had received another batch of 147 Nigerians who returned voluntarily from Agadez, Niger Republic.

The returns are part of efforts by the IOM and Nigerian authorities to assist citizens stranded abroad and help them reintegrate back home.
