1,001 Kano students to get foreign PGD scholarship
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled a foreign postgraduate scholarship program, which aims to send 1,001 beneficiaries to esteemed universities worldwide to pursue master’s degrees.
The state also allocated N4.6 billion for this program, covering tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses.
The Governor disclosed this during the official launch of the scholarship scheme held at the government house Kano on Thursday.
The foreign scholarship program, now reinstated, is a continuation of the legacy initiated by former Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso between 2011 and 2015.
The program was well-regarded for producing distinguished scholars who have made positive contributions to the development of Kano, Nigeria, and international communities.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the rekindled program aligns with his administration’s vision for higher education and human capital development.
He stated, “In this regard, I am very happy to say that some of the products of this policy are today occupying important government positions of authority in the present administration.”
“Finally ladies and gentlemen, it is my singular honor to flag up the resumption of foreign scholarship program of Kano state and the sponsorship of the first set of 550 scholars out of the 1001 to face post graduate studies abroad”
Apart from the foreign scholarship scheme, the Kano State government is dedicated to enhancing state-owned tertiary institutions.
This commitment extends to increased funding and infrastructure development to foster effective learning, teaching, and research.
Addressing the scholarship recipients, Governor Yusuf encouraged them to seize this golden opportunity to excel in their fields of study.
He urged them to remain dedicated, focused, and respectful of the laws, norms, values, and cultures of their host communities.
Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, lauded the beneficiaries and reminded them of the power of education.
He stressed, “Education remains the formidable pillar to attain unlimited success in life.”
Senator Kwankwaso’s administration previously sponsored three batches of scholars to foreign studies in approximately 16 countries across the globe, resulting in professionals, PhD holders, and master’s degree holders who are contributing to various fields.
The scholarship beneficiaries were handed their scholarship offers and travel documents at a lively ceremony.
