10 maritime travellers kidnapped on Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway

At least 10 maritime travellers are feared to have been kidnapped by sea pirates along the Bonny – Port Harcourt waterway.

The incident, which happened early Monday morning, involves people traveling between Bonny and Port Harcourt according to Channels news.

The details of the abduction are still unclear, but the district Chairman of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Rivers State, Israel Pepple, confirmed the incident.

He said, “It’s not a rumour, it is real. 10 persons have been kidnapped this morning coming from Bonny to Port Harcourt. We’ve reported to the security agencies.”

The Police Public Relations Officer also confirmed the kidnapping and stated that the police are aware of the situation. He said, “We are aware that 10 people have been kidnapped.”

The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olugbenga Adepoju, and the Divisional Police Officers in the area to ensure the safe return of the victims. The police are working to free the abducted travellers as soon as possible.
