No fewer than 21 out of more than 200 school girls kidnapped by Boko Haram militants inside their school in Chibok, Borno State in April, 2014 were released on Thursday, October 13, 2016.

The kidnapped school girls were released by their abductors at an arranged location in Borno State around 3am on Thursday, according to reports.

Contrary to rumours on social media, the Nigerian government released a statement where it stated that the girls were released by the terrorists after negotiation by the Red Cross and the Switzerland government without exchange of Boko Haram prisoners.

After meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday evening, the freed girls are said to be handed over to the DSS.
