An accident involving an Iveco truck with the registration KRA 80 XA and a Hiace bus bearing registration number FKY 898 YFvon the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has resulted in the loss of 10 lives and left seven others injured.

The Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun, Mrs. Florence Okpe, confirmed the tragic incident.

She reported that the accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. at Kara, near the turning towards the interchange on the expressway.

Okpe provided further details, stating, “The accident involved 18 men, out of which seven people sustained injuries, 10 lost their lives, and one miraculously escaped unhurt.”

According to the FRSC spokesperson, the primary cause of the accident was attributed to the speeding of the bus driver, leading to a loss of control. “The bus rammed into the truck that was about negotiating the turning,” she explained.

The injured victims were promptly transported to Famobis Hospital in Mowe for medical attention, while the lifeless bodies were deposited at Idera Morgue in Sagamu.

Expressing grief over the tragic incident, the sector commander, Anthony Uga, emphasized that such accidents could be avoided with necessary caution.

Uga urged drivers to prioritize road safety, advising them to take a 15-minute rest for every four hours spent behind the wheel.

He highlighted fatigue as a significant contributor to road traffic crashes.
