Amotekun arrests 10 Chinese, Ghanaian for illegal mining in Osun

Security personnel in Osun have arrested 11 foreigners over illegal mining in the state.

WuzupNigeria reports that the illegal miners comprised 10 Chinese and a Ghanaian.

They were reportedly arrested in a raid on four mining sites in Itagunmodi, Igun and Ariye 1 and 2 communities in Atakumosa West local government area of the state on Monday.

The raid by Amotekun Corps and men of Joint Task Force on banditry, kidnapping and illegal mining recently inaugurated by Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, reportedly lasted over two hours.

The miners were reportedly arrested on the sites.

Director-General of Amotekun Corps in Osun, Mr. Amitolu Shittu, in a chat, on Tuesday, confirmed the arrest, adding that the mining sites where the expatriates were arrested had been shut down.

He added that gradual upscale in the fight against illegal mining in the state was due to the commitment of Governor Oyetola to rid the state of economic saboteurs.

He also commended the men of JTF that participated in the operation for their cooperation.

“The success recorded so far is owing to the resolve of Governor Oyetola to rid the state of economic saboteurs,” Shittu said.
