A 22-year-old housewife, Zainab Isa, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her husband to death in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The victim, identified as Ibrahim Yahaya, aged 25, lost his life following a domestic argument.

The spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the unfortunate event in a statement released on Wednesday.

Abdulkarim reported, “On June 26, 2024, at about 10:00 am, the C Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint from a neighbour about the couple. The argument, which began around 9:00 am, escalated into a physical altercation. Zainab Isa used a knife to stab her husband in the chest. He died from the injury before the police arrived.”

The police spokesman expressed sorrow over the incident, describing it as the tragic outcome of an abusive marriage. He added, “The command is saddened by the unfortunate actions of a couple that led to the death of a promising young man due to the consequences of an abusive marriage.”

During preliminary investigations, Zainab Isa confessed to acting in self-defence, explaining that the fatal stabbing occurred during a physical altercation where she was allegedly being beaten and kicked by her husband. She mentioned that she had recently undergone a medical operation following the birth of their second child in early June.

The police have detained Zainab Isa as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
