Two Edo varsity students killed in cult clash
Two students from Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, lost their lives in a recent outbreak of violence believed to be connected to cult activities.
According to reports, the students were fatally shot last Friday by unidentified gunmen. This tragic incident occurred shortly after another student, known as Eddy, was allegedly assaulted and left for dead by a group of individuals.
Eddy was reportedly targeted for supposedly using a “fake bank alert” for purchases, although the details surrounding this incident remain unclear.
Misinformation about Eddy’s situation spread rapidly, leading to a misunderstanding among rival cult factions. This misunderstanding escalated into violence, resulting in the deaths of the two students on Friday.
One of the victims was identified as a 400-level student and a Student Union official in the Faculty of Agriculture. The fatal encounter occurred at the Poultry Road extension in Ekpoma.
In response to inquiries, the Spokesman for the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the tragic killings. He reassured the public that the police were actively investigating the matter and had already apprehended some suspects.
“Yes, the Command is aware of it, and investigation is ongoing in the matter, and some suspects have been arrested,” stated the PPRO.
