Three killed, two injured in Kano building collapse – NEMA

At least three persons reportedly died while two were injured in a three-story building that collapsed at Kuntau Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano.

The Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Kano state command, Dr.Nuradeen Abdullahi, confirmed the incident and casualty figures while speaking with newsmen on Friday.

The building was said to be under construction when it collapsed on Friday morning but the cause was not immediately ascertained.

About 11 construction workers were believed to be trapped under the rubble when the building came down.

“We received a distressed call today at about 9:20 a.m from a good Samaritan that a three-storey building under construction collapsed at Kuntau quarters,” Abdullahi said.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene.

“So far, five persons were rescued and taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, out of which three were confirmed dead, while two victims sustained injury and are receiving treatment.”

He went further that the search and rescue operation was still ongoing at the site of the incident.

“NEMA rescue team, Kano State Fire Service, Police, Red Cross, NSCDC, and SEMA among others are still at the site of the incident to ensure removal of other trapped victims,” Abdullahi said.
