The police in Adamawa State have arrested a 23-year-old woman, Rachel Geoffrey, for burning the hands of her co-wife’s children. The incident happened at Federal Housing Estate in Girei local government area.

Rachel inflicted severe injuries on Genesis Geoffrey, 7, and Ijadai Geoffrey, 3. The children’s mother had separated from their father, who is Rachel’s husband.

According to reports, Rachel cooked rice for her husband and left it at home. When the hungry children ate the food, Rachel became angry. She tied their hands with handkerchiefs and then set their hands on fire, causing severe injuries.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, advised parents to fulfill their responsibilities in caring for their children. “Parents need to live up to expectations in providing for their wards,” he said.

CP Morris also assured the public that the case would be diligently prosecuted.
