Vice President Kashim Shettima visited victims of Saturday’s suicide bombings in Gwoza, Borno State, on Monday.

During his visit, he made personal donations to the surviving victims and offered condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

Eighteen people were initially reported killed when four suicide bombers detonated improvised explosive devices in Gwoza on Saturday. On Monday, Vice President Shettima revealed that the death toll from the bomb attack has risen to 31.

“42 persons were brought to the specialist hospital, but 14 have been discharged after treatment,” Shettima said. “26 are still being attended to.”

The attack is one of the deadliest reported in Borno State in recent months, with injuries ranging from abdominal ruptures to skull and limb fractures.

Vice President Shettima was accompanied by several officials during his visit, including the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Kadafur; Senator Ali Ndume; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari; former Nigerian Ambassador to China, Baba Ahmed Jidda; and other government functionaries.
