Saka inspires Arsenal to 5-0 victory over Burnley

Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka delivered a clinical brace as Arsenal showcased a dominant performance, narrowing the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool to a mere two points following an impressive 5-0 thrashing of relegation-threatened Burnley at Turf Moor.

Arsenal’s visiting captain, Martin Odegaard, initiated the onslaught by slotting a low finish past Burnley’s goalkeeper just four minutes into the game, capitalizing on Gabriel Martinelli’s exquisite pass.

Saka extended Arsenal’s lead with a confidently converted penalty in the 41st minute, awarded after Lorenz Assignon brought down Leandro Trossard.

Odegaard orchestrated Saka’s sensational third goal in the 47th minute, further demoralizing Burnley.

The relentless attacking display continued with superb finishes from Trossard in the 66th minute and Kai Havertz in the 78th minute, sealing Arsenal’s emphatic victory as Vincent Kompany’s Burnley struggled to withstand the pressure.

The resounding triumph marked a historic milestone for Arsenal, as they secured their first-ever five straight league wins at the start of a calendar year.

Additionally, it marked the third occasion this year alone that Arsenal netted five goals or more in a single match.

With the win, Arsenal climbs to 55 points from 25 games, closely trailing Liverpool, who secured a 4-1 victory against Brentford earlier in the day.

Manchester City, with 52 points from 23 fixtures, awaited their clash against Chelsea in the late kick-off.

Meanwhile, Burnley continues to struggle, as they sit second bottom in the standings with 13 points from 25 matches, facing a daunting seven-point gap from safety.

The match was further marred for Burnley as midfielder Aaron Ramsey was carried off with a potentially serious knee injury in the second half.
