Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Tuesday confirmed that it has arrested two suspected fraudsters, who were out to defraud unsuspecting applicants, using the force’s ongoing recruitment exercise.
Endurance Ehichoya and David Answer Eghosa, both 21 years old and students of Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Delta State, were arrested in the state by NAF Intelligence operatives with assistance of Zenith Bank officials.
Their arrest followed a message posted on Facebook by Endurance Ehichoya, on 25 June this year, requesting applicants to contact Air Secretary, AVM CN Chukwu, through the GSM Number 08145038139 for enlistment assistance into the NAF while it also contained photograph of him to lure their would-be clients into believing that the scam was real.
However, they were contacted on the said phone number, Endurance had requested each caller to pay a sum of N75,000 into his bank account while the caller, wanting to retrieve as much information as possible to track down the suspect, he requested that he provided another bank account which made Endurance to drop the details of his friend, Eghosa’s bank account.
NAF who was working with the bank officials, then deployed his security operatives from 81 Air Maritime Group Benin to Ekpoma to arrest David Eghosa who was subsequently flown to Abuja for further investigation.
Meanwhile, NAF was also able to arrest Ehichoya, through his relations, and he has also been flown to Abuja, and both suspects confessed to operating multiple bank accounts, and have indulged in recruitment and local online dating scams using ladies’ names and photographs to defraud men online.
The suspects have been handed over to civil police for further investigation with a view to identifying and arresting other members of the gang.
