Police to arraign two for alleged defamation of Oba Saheed Elegushi

Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has initiated legal action against two individuals for alleged cyberstalking, illegal publication, and defamation of His Royal Highness, Oba Saheed Elegushi.

The charge, dated April 30, 2024, was filed by Nosa Watson Uhumwango, a senior legal officer at the State Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department, CIID, Yaba. The defendants, Adesola James and Odunmosu Azeez Awiye, are set to be arraigned before Justice Abimbola Awogboro.

Count 1 alleges conspiracy to commit cyberstalking, punishable under Section 27 of the Cybercrimes Act. In Count 2, the defendants are accused of illegally publishing offensive and false material on the TIKTOK platform, with the intention to cause annoyance and insult to Oba Saheed Elegushi, violating Section 24(1)(b)(2)(a)(i) of the Cybercrimes Act.

Count 3 pertains to the publication of defamatory material on TIKTOK and other social media platforms. The charges cover activities allegedly carried out between December 2023 and March 2024 in Lagos.
