Police foil kidnap attempt, neutralise two suspects in Plateau

Police and Security personnel in Plateau State thwarted a kidnapping attempt in the Fangha community of Daffo district, Bokkos local government area on Monday, leading to the demise of two suspected kidnappers during a confrontation with security operatives.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident, with the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, providing details of the operation.

“On 03/06/2024 at about 5:30 am, we received a distress call from a patriotic citizen who reported that, some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers were operating in Fangha area of Daffo District, Bokkos LGA,” Alabo stated.

Alabo revealed that a joint team of police officers and other security personnel swiftly responded to the scene. “A team of Policemen and other security help groups went to the scene of the incident where they engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and two of the hoodlums were neutralized in the process, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.”

The police spokesperson further disclosed that several exhibits were recovered from the neutralized suspects, including “one locally fabricated revolver gun loaded with four 7.62MM ammunition, two phones, one dagger, and one knife.”

Alabo reassured the public that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects, stating, “Efforts are intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.”

The foiled kidnapping attempt and the subsequent armed confrontation have highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Plateau State, where criminal elements continue to terrorize innocent civilians. The swift response by security forces, however, underscores the commitment to protecting lives and maintaining law and order.
