Olu Jacobs is alive, wife Joke Silva debunks hoax

Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has addressed the rumors circulating on social media that her husband, Olu Jacobs, is dead.

Speaking with TheNEWS and PMNEWS on Sunday evening, Joke Silva said, “My husband is alive and doing just fine.”

Media personality, Betty Irabor also confirmed the Veteran actor is alive and well, in her social media handle she wrote “Olu Jacobs is alive and well…pls ignore all rumors of his passing”.

This is the second time rumors about the death of Olu Jacobs, whose real name is Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, have spread on social media.

Fondly called Uncle Olu by his colleagues and admirers, Olu Jacobs has had a significant impact on Nigeria’s movie industry.

With more than 40 years of acting experience, Jacobs is seen as a bridge between the old and new generations of actors. He trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England and has worked with various theatre companies in Britain and starred in several international movies. In 2007, he won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

“Olu Jacobs has distinguished himself as a godfather in Nollywood, paving a successful path for many emerging actors and actresses in the industry,” Silva added.

His dedication to acting was inspired by the late legendary filmmaker Hubert Ogunde’s annual concert party in Kano. Jacobs later studied acting in London and appeared in various British TV shows and films in the 1970s and 1980s.

Olu Jacobs and Joke Silva, both veteran actors, founded and operate the Lufodo Group, a media corporation that includes film production and distribution assets, as well as the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts. Jacobs has starred in over 120 Nollywood films and is considered one of Nigeria’s top actors.

For his outstanding achievements in acting, Jacobs received the Industry Merit Award at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the African Movie Academy Awards in 2016.

“Olu Jacobs remains one of Nollywood’s finest actors, best role interpreter, and the best manipulator of words,” Silva concluded. “He continues to be an inspiration to many in the industry and beyond.”
