The Lagos State Task Force, led by CSP Shola Jejeloye, has threatened to demolish illegal structures at Alabarago in the Ojo Local Government Area of the state.

According to the PUNCH, this development was made known in a statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, who stated the chairman of the task force has, directed the occupants to vacate the area immediately.

This move, they said, was being considered after removal notices were served on squatters and occupants of shanties and illegal structures on May 19, 2022.

Jejeloye described the habitation in the area as deplorable due to the unhygienic activities and closeness of the shanties to the canal and drainage channel.

The Director said, “Illegal traders, occupants and miscreants should be ready to leave this place any moment. We have served them an eviction notice previously to vacate this place, but they have defied the government’s instructions by inhabiting here.

“Some of the occupants here believe the notice served two years ago no longer stands, but I want to assure them that nothing has invalidated the notice, and they should be prepared for demolition any minute from now.”

Last week, the agency, in its bid to curb environmental degradation and the excesses of miscreants and criminal elements who erect shanties around the state, carried out an extensive cleanup along Regional Road in Lekki.

The eight-hour-long operation, anchored by the agency’s chairman, Jejeloye, saw the demolition of shanties along the entire stretch of the road. These shanties deface the metropolis and constitute environmental and safety concerns for residents and commuters in the state,” Gbadeyan said.
