The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced plans to revoke the driver’s licenses of reckless drivers.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed made this known on Friday in Abuja while addressing newsmen about the 2024 Eid-el Kabir Special Patrol Operations held from June 14 to June 23.

Mohammed emphasized the importance of collective participation and collaboration from all stakeholders to ensure road safety.

He mentioned that the FRSC has realized the increasing need for this cooperation to achieve significant results.

Key activities during the patrol included the formation of an Inter-agency Joint Task Force to address the behavior of trailer drivers. “We are enforcing compliance on the indiscriminate use of trailers to convey human beings,” Mohammed said. He also mentioned aggressive public enlightenment, media engagement, advocacy campaigns in motor parks, and strategic route mapping across the country.

The FRSC worked closely with various transport unions, security agencies, state traffic management agencies, and the FCT Department of Road Traffic Services to promote highway safety. “All these were done to ensure that every stakeholder, both in the public and private sector, plays a cardinal role in entrenching safety on the highways,” Mohammed stated.

Mohammed announced that the FRSC is not just enforcing traffic regulations but also prosecuting defiant drivers through mobile court operations across the 36 states and the FCT.

“Subsequently, more drastic measures, including suspension and withdrawal of the national driver’s license, will be carried out,” he warned.
