FG unveils plan to reform NYSC

The federal government has announced transformative initiatives aimed at empowering young people across the nation in a bid to revolutionize opportunities for Nigerian youth.

Among these initiatives is a significant reform of the National Youth Service Corps, emphasizing the preparation of graduates for gainful employment or entrepreneurship upon completion of their studies.

Furthermore, the government plans to inaugurate the NextGen Bank in April 2024, a pivotal institution designed to provide financial support to young entrepreneurs embarking on various ventures.

Additionally, the government is committed to implementing a mandatory 30% quota in government appointments, amplifying youth representation in decision-making processes. It also intends to construct three youth villages in Niger, Katsina, and Ebonyi states, fostering environments conducive to youth development.

Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development, unveiled these transformative measures in Abuja, highlighting a visionary roadmap to empower the nation’s youth.

“The President’s vision for Nigeria’s youth is groundbreaking,” stated the minister. “It encompasses comprehensive education, skills development, empowerment through diverse initiatives, and active engagement at all levels.”

She further emphasized the imminent launch of the NextGen bank, which will offer grants, low-interest loans, and equity investments, propelling youth entrepreneurship across various sectors including agriculture, sustainable mining, green energy, healthcare services, education, ICT, and telecommunications.

“The NextGen bank is set to launch in April 2024. This retail development financial institution will provide grants, low-interest loans, and equity investments, catalysing youth entrepreneurship in the agriculture, sustainable mining, green energy, sustainable mobility, blue economy, healthcare services, education and skill development, financial services, ICT and telecoms,” she noted
