FAAN reacts to viral video of immigration officer begging for money
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria has responded to a viral video showing a Nigerian Immigration Service officer begging a passenger for money at the airport.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, released a statement on Wednesday condemning the officer’s behavior.
The video showed an unnamed NIS officer was caught on camera persistently asking a tourist for money at the International Airport and was even willing to accept card payments.
This incident has sparked public outrage, with many viewing it as a sign of deep moral decay in Nigeria.
Kuku’s statement said, “I have seen the disturbing video circulating of a Nigerian Immigration Service official begging a passenger for money at the airport. I want to ensure you know that this behavior is completely unacceptable and does not reflect the passenger experience we hope to provide at our terminals.”
She added that the officer involved has been removed from duty and is facing disciplinary action. “The officer in question has been immediately withdrawn from duty at the terminal and is currently facing disciplinary action with the NIS,” Kuku said.
Kuku emphasized FAAN’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism. “We are committed to maintaining the integrity and professionalism of all personnel working at our airports,” she stated.
She also urged passengers to report any similar incidents. “I would like to ask all passengers to report any similar incidents or seek immediate support through the phone numbers and QR codes provided below,” Kuku added. “Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we will take every necessary step to ensure a pleasant travel experience for everyone.”
