Cardi B knocks TMZ over attempt to set up Ayra Starr

Published

Cardi B’s memory lapse at the Met Gala, where she couldn’t recall the designer of her stunning gown, has stirred controversy.

However, Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr is defending Cardi, saying it’s tough to always be perfect, especially under pressure.

TMZ Hip Hop caught up with Ayra Starr in Beverly Hills, where she empathized with Cardi’s situation.

She explained that even seasoned stars like Cardi can falter when nerves kick in, urging people to cut her some slack. She said, “It can happen….. Nerves”.

“Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa try to be messy and mission failed … also why put a superstar like Ayra in such a weird and uncomfortable position?” Cardi B responded on Twitter, seemingly unimpressed with the attempt to set her up.

The interview with TMZ has stirred up online reactions with the interview facing some backlash.

@adoremeluv1 commented, “Like how many times you gone ask the same question to prove your point. Epic fail”

@redbarrz wrote“😂. That was so messy and childish like get over it . Tried and failed”

@DiorDream3 also joined, “They really are trying to get a cardi down moment with that ? Maybe people are tired of others copying and claiming first dibs on this fashion ish so she said nothing !”

@Atolagbejoy23 added, “They just wanna mislead her to say something negative not knowing that Ayra Starr sef no dey gree for anybody 🤣🤣”

@MickaelMarabou posted, “This was so unfair to watch they were trying to coerce her. They flipped the same question up like 3 to 4 times just a box her in 🤦🏾‍♀️ under fair”

@Ufuomajennie concurred, “They clearly knew what they were doing but they failed miserably! Bravo Ayra”

During the Met Gala on Monday, April 6, Cardi had struggled to recall the exact name of the Chinese designer, Sensen Lii of Windowsen, who crafted her gown.

She referred to them only by their ethnicity, which sparked criticism. However, Cardi clarified that she didn’t intend any offense and simply wanted to provide accurate information.

Vogue’s former managing director, Gilbert Cheah, criticized Cardi for her response, but Cardi dismissed his comments, saying his opinion was irrelevant since he’s no longer with Vogue.

Despite the slip-up, Sensen Lii hasn’t shown any signs of anger. In fact, the incident has generated significant buzz for her fashion brand.

Cardi defended herself, attributing the mistake to the overwhelming nature of the moment and maintaining that it was innocent.

She reiterated that she’d rather say “Asian” than provide incorrect information or remain silent.
