Blessing Oborududu advances to women’s 68kg wrestling Olympics semifinals
Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu has reached the semifinals in the women’s 68kg wrestling event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Oborududu won her quarterfinal match against France’s Koumba Larroque with a score of 6-2. This victory silenced the home crowd and secured her spot in the semifinals.
Earlier, Oborududu faced Canada’s Linda Morais and defeated her 8-2. Despite a challenging start where she conceded 2 points in the first 3 minutes, Oborududu made a strong comeback in the second half, scoring six consecutive points to win.
With this win, Oborududu is guaranteed to leave the Olympics with a medal, having already made history as the first Nigerian wrestler to win an Olympic medal. She earned a Silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The semifinals will be held later today, and Oborududu is hopeful for another strong performance as she aims for gold.
