Former United States President Barack Obama has endorsed Kamala Harris for the White House, giving a significant boost to her campaign.

Obama’s support comes as Harris faces off against former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election.

On Friday, Obama shared his endorsement on the social media platform X. He wrote, “Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support.”

Obama added, “At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us.”

This endorsement is a major boost for Harris, who has gained significant support since announcing her candidacy. She entered the race following President Joe Biden’s decision to step down after a poor debate performance and concerns about his mental fitness.

Harris, 59, made history as the country’s first female vice president and aims to make history again by winning the presidency. She recently criticized Trump and his Republican allies during a speech to teachers, calling out what she described as a “full-on attack” on democratic freedoms.

Harris addressed the situation with Trump, saying on X, “What happened to ‘any time, any place?’” This was in response to Trump’s refusal to schedule a debate with her, claiming it would be “inappropriate” until she was officially named the Democratic nominee.

The American Federation of Teachers, the first union to endorse Harris, applauded her speech at their convention in Houston. Harris warned that Trump’s Republicans are attacking “hard-won, hard-fought freedoms.” She said, “While you teach students about democracy and representative government, extremists attack the sacred freedom to vote. While you try to create safe and welcoming places where our children can learn, extremists attack our freedom to live safe from gun violence.”

Trump, who at 78 is the oldest presidential nominee in US history, has been using extreme rhetoric against Harris. On Wednesday, he called her a “radical left lunatic” and made false claims about her views on newborn babies. Trump has also promised not to allocate any federal funds to schools with vaccine mandates, which are in place at every public school in America.
