The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops of Operation Delta Safe have confiscated 9,225,149 litres of crude oil, 2,874,916 litres of diesel, and 31,380 litres of petrol stolen in June.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Edward Buba, revealed this on Thursday, June 27, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
In addition to the oil seizures, the military conducted successful operations across the country in the second quarter of the year.
They killed 2,245 terrorists, arrested 3,682 suspected criminals, and rescued 1,993 kidnap victims.
Maj-Gen Buba stated that troops recovered 2,783 weapons and 64,547 rounds of ammunition. Among the recovered weapons were 1,169 AK-47 rifles, 36,273 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, and 14,764 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammo.
Gen. Buba emphasized the military’s commitment to defeating terrorists and ensuring citizens’ safety. “The military has resolved to destroy the terrorists and dismantle their military capabilities for citizens to be safe,” he said.
He added that the military continuously assesses its operations to minimize civilian casualties. “Our operations are progressing according to plan even as we abide by international laws governing armed conflict. We will do everything within the bounds of the law to make our nation safe for citizens. The military will keep up with the fighting spirit and maintain the stamina in the frontlines.”
Gen. Buba concluded with a statement of pride in their mission: “Our pride is to risk our lives, to save the lives of our citizens. This is what we do to secure our country.”
