‘It’s all God’, Amusan celebrates CAS doping case victory
100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan is in high spirits after winning her case at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
CAS ruled in favor of the 27-year-old athlete in an appeal brought by World Athletics and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
In an Instagram post, Amusan expressed her gratitude, saying, “It’s all God,” alongside the court’s announcement.
The Ogun-State-born athlete was initially suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit in 2023 for missing three drug tests within 12 months. However, this verdict was later overturned by the AIU panel.
Had the appeal been upheld, Amusan would have missed the 2024 Olympic Games and faced a two-year suspension.
CAS stated that its panel “unanimously acknowledged that the Athlete committed two filing failures but did not confirm the existence of a missed test, alleged by WA and WADA, which would have been the third Whereabouts Failure committed within a 12-month period.”
Amusan set the world record of 12.12 seconds at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July 2022 and went on to win the title. She finished sixth in the World Championships in Budapest last year.
According to World Athletics’ anti-doping rules, any athlete who fails to declare their whereabouts for a doping test on three occasions over a 12-month period is ineligible to compete for two years.
