The Central Bank of Nigeria has firmly denied alleged plans to revoke the licenses of Unity, Polaris, and Keystone banks.
This comes after an online report circulated claiming the apex bank would withdraw the licenses of the three financial institutions, following the recent revocation of Heritage Bank’s operating license.
In a statement posted on its official social media pages on Tuesday, the CBN categorically stated that the content circulating online is “fake and not from the CBN.”
The report had suggested that the CBN was considering revoking the licenses of Unity, Polaris, and Keystone banks, raising concerns among customers and stakeholders of these financial institutions.
However, the apex bank’s swift denial has put those rumors to rest, reassuring the public that no such plans are in place.
The Nation had earlier reported on Monday, June 4, that the CBN had revoked the license of Heritage Bank due to the bank’s inability to improve its financial performance and lack of reasonable prospects for recovery, citing threats to financial stability.
While the CBN’s decision regarding Heritage Bank has been implemented, the recent statement confirms that Unity, Polaris, and Keystone banks are not facing similar measures at this time.
