17 injured in Ogun road accident
No fewer than 17 persons were injured in multiple road crashes on Ota-Idiroko Road on Saturday.
According to the PUNCH, it was reported that 15, out of the 32 persons involved in the accident which occurred at 8:55 am around Iju bridge, managed to escape unhurt.
The accident involved four vehicles: a Mazda bus with registration number AAA729YC, a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number LND85YA, a Sino truck with no registration number, and a Bajaj tricycle marked TTN58ND.
The spokesperson of the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, blamed the accident on speed on the part of the driver of the Sino truck while negotiating the bend around the bridge.
She said the Sino truck driver lost control and rammed into the vehicle before it triggered the multiple crash.
While disclosing that those injured were taken to General Hospital, Ota, for medical treatment, she advised motorists to shun speed and consider other road users to reduce crashes and the attendant loss of lives on our roads.
The statement partly read, “The FRSC, Ota, carried out a rescue operation at Iju bridge at about 08:55 am on the Ota-Idiroko route. The crash occurred today, May 11, 2024, involving 32 people, comprising 12 male adults and 20 female adults.
“Seventeen people sustained injuries (six male adults and 11 female adults) and the remaining 15 people were unhurt. Fortunately, no life was lost from the multiple crashes. The suspected cause of the crash was speed on the part of the Sino truck driver.
